Ultima Markets began quoting a gold CFD through the weekend yesterday (Monday), listing XAUUSD247 on MetaTrader 5. It is the fourth broker to ship a weekend gold symbol under that exact ticker.
The contract is one ounce. Ultima caps it at 100 lots, so the largest weekend position a client can hold is 100 ounces, roughly $440,000 at a gold price near $4,400.
That is the size of a single standard weekday gold contract. Vantage listed the first XAUUSD247 in early July, and nine weeks on the copies barely differ from the original.
Small contracts, hard exposure ceilings and wider weekend pricing run through all of them. Those choices describe the market being quoted into, not the demand being met.
Four Brokers, One Ticker
Vantage opened the format on July 6 with a one-ounce contract set against its own 100-ounce standard, tiered leverage to 100x and accounts pushed into close-only mode once exposure limits are hit.
VT Markets took the ticker on August 5 and published what the others did not: a minimum weekend spread of 40 points against 15 points on weekdays, or 2.67 times the weekday level.
STARTRADER followed on August 21, keeping its conventional XAUUSD running in parallel rather than extending its hours. “Developments that move it do not wait for Monday,” Chief Executive Peter Karsten said.

Two others went the same way under a different name. TradeQuo and QuoMarkets each launched a separate weekend symbol called GOLD247, QuoMarkets on September 5, both on MetaTrader 5 and both alongside an unchanged standard gold product.
The Weekend Market Behind the Weekend Product
The nearest listed venue is small. CME Group’s one-ounce gold futures traded almost 15,000 contracts, about $60 million of notional, in their first weekend of continuous trading in July.
The liquidity side is no more transparent. GBE Prime joined Scope Prime and Match-Prime in quoting gold across the weekend without identifying its reference venues, price-discovery process or weekend liquidity sources.
CMC Markets withheld pricing and margin terms when it added its own weekend gold. Ultima named no weekend price source either, publishing hours, contract size, leverage and eligible account types but no spread.
A Gold Contract Booked as Crypto
One line in the specification sits oddly. Ultima files XAUUSD247 under crypto instruments even though the exposure is gold, and gave no reason for the choice.
The schedule runs 00:00 to 24:00 GMT+3 on Saturdays and Sundays, with a one-minute rollover pause on weekdays. Commission is zero on STP and ECN accounts and leverage is tiered to 1:100.
Hedged positions are margined on the larger side only. Copy Trading Pro accounts are excluded.
What the weekend symbol does not change is the cost of holding. All 32 broker accounts FinanceMagnates.com sampled last week charged negative overnight financing on gold longs, from $57.55 to $95.58 per lot a night.
A trader can now exit before Monday. The nights still bill.
The release names the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and South Africa’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), without saying which entity offers the product or where it is available.
Why the Copying Is Rational
Gold is the instrument worth fighting over. It has reached as much as 90% of volumes at some CFD brokers, with metals CFDs accounting for more than 60% of global broker volumes in the first half of 2025, close to 80% of it in gold.
A shared ticker also lowers the cost of switching. A client who learned XAUUSD247 at one firm finds the same string, the same one-ounce contract and the same weekend hours at three others.
That is convenient for the trader and awkward for the four firms paying to acquire them. Ultima has met a version of the problem before.
A second brokerage began trading under the Ultima Markets name last year, and the original said it would take all necessary measures, including legal recourse, to protect the brand.
The app and remaining platforms are due later this month.
