Most people probably wouldn’t want to manage seed phrases, hardware wallets or recovery processes themselves.

That much is obvious.

But imagine two financial apps that feel the same to use.

With one of them, your assets can only ever exist inside the company’s system.

With the other, however, you can withdraw your assets to your own wallet whenever you want, even if you never actually do so.

Would that option affect which app you trust?

I’m curious as to whether self-custody mainly has value because people actively use it, or because the knowledge that you can leave changes your relationship with the platform.
