A Bitcoin wallet containing 5 Bitcoins was successfully recovered after being presumed lost for 9 years. The user found the Bitcoin wallet in his old college laptop. He used Claude to decrypt the wallet by feeding it old college notes in an attempt to find some patterns between the notes and the password. The recovered Bitcoin, which was bought for around $200, is now valued at almost $400k.

How was he able to decrypt the Bitcoin private key?

He didn’t. Claude was able to brute-force its entry from the old notes, which provided a possible look at common phrases and alphanumeric combinations the author might have used as a password. Bitcoin’s private key remains unbreakable despite advances in computational power.
