Polygon just pushed a major upgrade called the Madhugiri Hardfork, and it is a real step forward for making Polygon one of the fastest and most reliable L2 networks. The upgrade increases Polygon’s speed by about 33% (1000 TPS to 1400 TPS) and puts the chain on a smooth path toward even higher throughput in the future.

The biggest change is that Polygon can now adjust blocktimes directly in the chain without needing another hardfork. That means future speed upgrades will be much easier and can happen without any network disruption. Polygon is already processing around 1,400 transactions per second and is on track for 5,000 transactions per second as earlier upgrades continue to unlock more performance.

To give a sense of scale, Polygon in its current state could have processed all 33.6 billion ACH payments from 2024 and still had plenty of room left over. That is the level of throughput that real payment systems require, and it is exciting to see Polygon reaching performance numbers that match what major financial networks already do today.

The upgrade also activates several Ethereum Fusaka EIPs that improve security and reduce potential attack risks. This makes the Polygon network more stable, more dependable, and better suited for large partners who rely on predictable infrastructure. Companies like Revolut, Stripe, Mastercard, BlackRock, Reliance Jio, Calastone, and Flutterwave are already building on Polygon, and upgrades like Madhugiri make the network even more attractive for them.

No one using Polygon needs to take any action. The network handled the upgrade automatically. Only full node operators need to update.

Overall, Madhugiri brings faster block production, smoother transactions, better reliability, and a cleaner path for future performance gains. It builds on Polygon’s recent progress with the Rio and Heimdall upgrades, which introduced near instant finality, removed reorg risk, and pushed throughput toward the 5K TPS target.

Polygon is clearly positioning itself as a leader among L2s with a strong focus on payments, real world assets, and institutional scale activity. Each upgrade puts it another step ahead.
