IBM leads the pack in blockchain development ahead of Microsoft ... - IBS Intelligence (blog) (subscription)

IBM has come out on top in the blockchain sector, and well ahead of its competitors, according to a new study by Juniper Research. Over 4 in 10 (43%) companies considering or deploying blockchain ranked IBM first – more than twice the proportion selecting second-placed Microsoft (20%). This is the result of IBM’s engagement with blockchain companies like Hyperledger and its extensive list of blockchain clients. “Even if companies conduct initial testing using a public blockchain, in most cases the shortcomings of these chains should disqualify them from many use cases, including financial settlement, public sector deployments, logistics and land registry,” said research author Dr Windsor Holden. Juniper Research gives due credit to IBM for its expansive and varied projects and partnership currently under deployment dedicated to blockchain systems. IBM has even ventured in areas like the crude oil market, where it has partnered with Natixis and Trafigura to create a DLT system that digitises many of the steps in transactions via blockchain. Chile’s Santiago Stock Exchange is the first stock market in Latin America to apply the IBM blockchain platform within its short selling system and the first in the world to implement blockchain-based securities technology. The same goes for private equity, where this year IBM worked with Northern Trust for a blockchain system. Coin spectator is an automated news aggregation service.
