The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, tweeted that he is having “serious thought” on creating a social media platform, as Twitter fails to comply with “free speech” principles.

Essentially, Musk responded to a user’s question on whether he had plans to build a social media platform based on an open-source algorithm, while also prioritizing free speech and minimizing propaganda.

“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy,”

Musk tweeted this weekend.

The billionaire set up a Twitter poll last Friday, asking users if they thought Twitter adheres to the principle of free speech. The poll results came up with over 70% voting “no.”

If Musk finally decides to launch his social media platform, he would join a growing number of decentralized tech companies that are looking for ways to draw users away from platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook (now Meta), which censor them.
