Author here! The internet still lacks a native primitive for “distinct human.” Current solutions either mandate centralized biometric registries (like hardware Orbs) or heavy ZK circuits that crash on mobile devices.
I designed and benchmarked Sybil Wedge: a client-side ZK proof-of-personhood construction running in 477 ms on an entry-level Samsung Galaxy A12 (Helio P35, ARM64) with 4,309 constraints.
It combines attester-blinded secret commitments, arity-8 Merkle trees, and RLN-style Shamir secret sharing (double-use in a window reveals the secret and slashes the deposit). The repo includes the full 22-page paper, circuits, and also documents the four optimization paths that failed under empirical measurement.
