Hey Crypto fam,
I was searching around for a project to do and came to the conclusion of creating a crypto trading bot. Here is the catch, I did it all through Gemini. I started with prompts to create python scripts and fine tune what I wanted the bot to do. I also then had it create a dashboard for the data that my bot created/needed. Just a fun project for the day today. Overall, I would say it took me 6 hours (not entirely focused on the project) to create. Dashboard and bot together.
Not that this is anything revolutionary or game changing. It is just a simple bot but I intend on making another post or two sharing the results. I am not a programmer nor do I work in anything programming related but it reminds me of the old days of jailbreaking my phone and being an early teen asking these big jailbreak names to help me with goofy ideas I had but didn’t know how to program (And they still answered and helped! Amazing community back then).
Getting to what the bot does: It is in a way centered around capitol protection with a favorite towards active positive price momentum. I have a 150 day EMA and a 7 day EMA that protect the buy from outlier movements. It doesn’t buy at random wicks up or down. I have a tiered buying system that buys at 2%, 4%, 5% and 7% drops once the price moves above the 150 EMA.
Buys are cooled down by a 16 minute cool off period between purchases along with a daily rolling limit on how much that can be bought. The trades are made as a post only limit to minimize fees. I also have a once weekly buy so there is still a DCA at play.
In addition to these triggers, I have a decay set on my percentages of movement incase there is a long sideways action. Over 36 hours after a new 150 day EMA, if there isn’t a new one, the percentages that trigger a buy are reduced by .5 making them 1.5%, 3.5%, 4.5%, and 6.5%. Reducing even further until there is a buy and then returning to normal with a new 15 hour decay put in place doing the same action.
My dashboard displayed all the needed prices of triggers and has a “PnL” return for each trade and a summary to display over all profit. I have a heartbeat check to make sure that the program is still running and that is displayed though a green dot indicator on the page. In the center of the page, I have a line graph that displays how much the price needs to move (Current price – Trigger price) and what the price needs to be for a purchase to happen.
Overall, this bot captures positive volatility troughs in hopes that there is a bigger over all trend of going up via the 150 EMA and smoothes it out via the 7 day EMA.
Maybe this will be profitable? Who knows but it was fun building it and now getting to see it in action sometime soon.
Thanks! (If you have done something similar, please share! Or if you have any tips/tricks, please let me know)
